Bank of America Outage Leaves Customers with $0 Account Balances

Bank of America experienced a significant outage on Wednesday afternoon, causing some customer accounts to display a balance of zero. The disruption, which began around 12:47 PM, was reported by users on Downdetector, a site that tracks service interruptions and tech issues.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) shared that their account balance showed $0, though when they called Bank of America's automated phone line, the correct balance was provided.

Bank of America has not yet issued a statement explaining the cause of the outage, but many customers reported similar issues with their account balances temporarily disappearing.

The financial institution has faced tech glitches in the past, but this latest outage created widespread concern among users. Customers are advised to check their accounts through multiple channels to verify balances.

Bank of America Responds to Account Access Outage, Issues Persist into Evening

Bank of America’s customer help line on X (formerly Twitter) directed affected customers to an automated link for assistance after a widespread outage left some accounts displaying zero balances.

As the second-largest U.S. bank, trailing only JPMorgan, BofA serves 69 million domestic consumers and small businesses. In a statement to FOX Business, the company acknowledged the issue:

"Some clients are experiencing an issue accessing their accounts and balance information today. These issues are being addressed and have largely been resolved. We apologize for any inconvenience."

However, Downdetector, which tracks tech outages, continued to show disruption reports well into the 7 p.m. ET hour.

Despite the service interruption, Bank of America’s shares ended the trading session with little change and have gained over 16% this year, slightly underperforming the S&P 500’s nearly 20% increase.
