Voters view Harris more favorably as she settles into role atop Democratic ticket: AP-NORC poll.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Lillian Dunsmuir, a 58-year-old real estate agent from Bullhead City, Arizona, hadn't given much thought to Vice President Kamala Harris until recently, but now she’s impressed.

“She’s funny, very smart, and speaks well,” Dunsmuir said. “I’d feel confident with her handling foreign leaders. Plus, she’s pro-choice, and so am I.”According to a new poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, voter sentiment towards Harris has improved slightly since President Joe Biden exited the race. Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, is now viewed more positively than negatively. Former President Donald Trump’s favorability, however, has remained consistent, though the survey was conducted before an apparent assassination attempt on him during a golf outing in Florida.

The poll indicates that about half of voters have a somewhat or very positive view of Harris, while 44% view her somewhat or very negatively. This is a slight shift from late July, when opinions of Harris were slightly more unfavorable. As for Trump, six in 10 voters have a somewhat or very negative view, while four in 10 hold a somewhat or very favorable opinion.

Despite the lack of major changes in how figures like Biden, Trump, or Harris are perceived, Trump has historically managed to succeed despite low favorability ratings. He won the 2016 election while being broadly unpopular and came close in 2020 under similar circumstances.
