White House hosts first meeting with Trump, Harris transition teams

Representatives from the transition teams of former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris met for the first time at the White House, the Biden administration announced on Wednesday. This meeting marks the beginning of the outgoing administration's efforts to ensure a smooth handover to the next president, whoever that may be after the November election.

The meeting, hosted by Chief of Staff Jeffrey Zients, brought together the White House Transition Coordinating Committee — the government’s top transition planning body — with representatives from both Trump and Harris’ teams. This is the first time this year that aides from both parties participated in such a meeting. Under the Presidential Transition Act, this inclusion is required, with representatives from each candidate serving in an advisory role.

The hour-long meeting, held in the Roosevelt Room, provided updates on transition preparations, including plans for office space for the nominees, identifying acting career officials to fill vacant political roles, and preparing agency operation memos for the incoming president-elect’s team.
